Three Miners Gewurztraminer 2008

Bouquet: Turkish delight, spicy red currant, locquat aromatics
Palate: Big rich earthy and spicy mouthfeel, generous texture and a strong finish

  Winemaking: This was the third harvest of gewurztraminer grapes from Three Miners Vineyard. Two different pickings were made in the vineyard. Fermentation A was picked to show lots of fruit freshness and acidity. Fermentation B was picked to show more texture and complexity and a softer finish. Both lots were treated the same with: Whole bunch pressed for over 6 hours to get some skin phenolic extraction. No settling prior to fermentation. One selected yeast strain in Fermentation A. Natural yeast strain in Fermentation B. Coolish fermentation at the start between 14-16 degrees celsius and a finishing temperature of approximately 20 degrees celsius. Some residual sugar retained to balance the natural acidity. Some casein fining was done to decrease phenolic drive. Wine has undergone sterile filtration due to its residual sweetness.
